CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Beginning Ballet I (Open Level; Youth - Adult) Thursday 6:00 - 7:30 PM
A beginning ballet class for anyone who has ever dreamed of learning ballet for the grace and artistry of it! This class will focus on the joy of moving to music through a classically structured ballet class full of ballet technique and elegance!
Adult Ballet III / IV- Intermediate/Adv (Adult/Teen) Tuesday 7:00 - 9:00 PM
This class requires 4 or more years of ballet experience. A 1/2 floor barre (via the Stretch and Strengthen class just prior, 6:30 - 7:00 pm) is followed by a Classical Cecchetti ballet technique class. Emphasis is placed on flexibility, strength, and musicality in movement. Choreography for the current show is learned by all, however, participation in the show is optional per the instructor or student. Intermediate pointe students may take this class. Ballet skirts are permitted. Stretch and Strengthen class is part of this class.
Zircon Ballet IV w/ Pointe - (Combined with Topaz Ballet) Intermed/Adv (Adult/Teen) Wednesday: 5:30 - 7:00 PM
This class requires 5 or more years experience in ballet. After a 1/2 hour floor barre, a classical Cecchetti ballet class, including pointe technique, is given with an emphasis on flexibility, strength, musicality, and adagio. Performance-bound choreography will be rehearsed. All pointe students may take this class, however, the instructor decides if the student is able to dance center floor on pointe.
Ballroom Basics: Salsa ~ Swing ~ Waltz (Adult/Teen) Wednesday: 8:30 - 9:30 PM
This class is a crash course in various styles of Social Dance (see schedule for current offering) packed into 6 weeks of instruction for the adult/teen beginner to intermediate social dancer. Our goal is to get you out dancing in public in just 6 lessons and have you feel confident about the moves you know! Stick around after the hour lesson for 15 minutes of free floor time to practice your new moves in front of the instructor and receive guidance on questions specific to you! It isn't mandatory to have your own partner in order to join, but it IS strongly suggested. It helps to have a partner to practice with during the week (PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!:)
Belly Dance Aerobics - Beginners-Intermediate-Advanced (Adult/Teen) Tuesday: 6:30 - 7:30 PM
Belly dance put to an aerobic pace to create stamina and fitness. No previous experience required. Belly dance apparel discussed on first day of class. Wear comfortable, form-fitting clothing to class.
Belly Dance Choreography - Intermediate (Adult/Teen) [Currently unavailable]
For teens and adults with previous belly dance experience, this class will put together belly dance combinations with the intent to perform them in a show. Finger cymbals and veils may be used.
Belly Dance Technique I - Beginners (Adult/Teen) Thursday: 6:30 - 7:30 PM
For students who have never taken a belly dance class this class will cover beginning belly dance technique in detail. No previous experience required. Belly dance apparel discussed on first day of class. Wear comfortable, form-fitting clothing to class.
Belly Dance Technique II - Intermediate (Adult/Teen) Thursday 7:30 - 8:30 PM
For teens and adults with previous belly dance experience, this class will cover belly dance technique for the intermediate dancer. Finger cymbals and veils may be used.
Dance It! Sing It! (8-18 yr olds) Saturday 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM [Available in Summers only]
Are you a dancer who sings? Or a singer who dances? This is the musical class for you! You’ll learn to sing and dance numbers such as “Footloose,” “Grease,” “Jailhouse Rock,” “Stop in the Name of Love,” “Cotton-eyed Joe,” and more. Be ready to sing your heart out (music provided), and swing dance, tap dance, character dance, jazz dance and any other move required to “act the part!” You'll work on your stage presence and vocal projection as we get you ready to steal the show (spring performance) with your musical theatre showstoppers!
Dance Sampler I- Beginning (Open Level) Saturday 1:00 - 2:00 PM [Currently unavailable]
For dancers aged 12 and up, the Dance Sampler class offers an opportunity to explore all types of dance in one class! Each week a new style of dance will be offered: swing, salsa, line dance, waltz, Zumba, tap, dancercize, square dance, belly dance! The goal is to have FUN and get FIT, too! (Wear stretchy, comfortable clothes.)
Diamond Combo Tuesday 4:00 - 5:00 PM or
Quartz Combo Saturday 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM- Ballet/Tap/Jazz (4-6 yr old)
A 30 minute ballet class followed by 30 minutes of tap is presented in an entertaining, but disciplined way, just for the young dancer. Classical ballet and tap technique teach balance, fine coordination, and rhythm. Barre work is limited to 5-10 mins and music is age-appropriate to keep dance class FUN! Saturday classes also add jazz to the workout.
Emerald: Ballet (8-12 yr olds) Monday 5:00 - 6:30 PM
For dancers with at least 3-4 years experience in dance, this class offers Cecchetti ballet with emphasis on body positions, alignment, grace, and expansion of the dancer's knowledge of dance steps and vocabulary. Emerald Jazz & Tap are companion classes which complete the Emerald level curriculum.
Emerald Tap (8-12 yr olds) Monday 4:00 - 5:00 PM
Tap technique includes riffs, times steps, carr.
Emerald: Jazz Wednesday 4:00 - 5:30 PM
(8-12 yr olds) For dancers with at least 3-4 years experience in dance, this class offers 1 hour of jazz with emphasis on leaps, turns, flexibility and rhythmic expression.
Jazz Fusion I (Open Level) Saturday 12:30 - 1:30 PM
This is an open-level jazz class for beginners who have NO or little dance experience. A fusion of many dance styles (classical jazz, hip hop, latin, swing) keeps this class upbeat and fun! Focus is placed on stretching and learning many different dance steps. Choreography for the Spring Recital will be learned, however, participation in the recital is optional. Jazz shoes are recommended.
Jazz Fusion II/III (Intermediate Level) [Currently unavailable]
This is a jazz class offered to dancers who have taken jazz and ballet in other classes. It is a fusion of many dance styles (classical jazz, hip hop, tap, latin, swing) and focuses on stretching, leaping, and turning and classical jazz. Choregraphy for the Spring Recital will be learned. Jazz shoes are required.
Jazz Fusion III/IV (Combined with Topaz Jazz) (Advanced) Monday 6:30 - 8:00 PM
This is an advanced jazz class offering a fusion of classical jazz, hip-hop, latin, modern, and swing. For teens or adults with at least 4 yrs jazz dance experience, this class has an "anything goes" approach to interpreting music from all genres. Minimum requirement to join: 3 years of ballet, splits, triple pirouettes, battement above the waist. Focus is on leaps, turns, precision ensemble work, character projection, and performance choreography.
Kids Sing-a-Long (4-7 y.o.) Saturday: 9:00 - 10:00 AM [Available in Summers only]
You can never start too early grooming the next child star for the limelight! This sing-a-long for children will use familiar songs to bring out the voice in your young artist. Other musical props such as drums, maracas, and kazoos are used to help teach the concepts of tempo and rhythm. Have a little singing bird at home? The flock is here!
Lyrical Jazz IV (Advanced) Monday 8:00 - 9:00 PM
This add-on class follows the Topaz-Zircon Jazz class (aka Jazz Fusion III/IV) which must be taken first for warm-up and technique. The emotional adagio, lyrical moves learned in class will be applied to a piece of choreography to be performed in the spring performance. Experience of at least 4 yrs of jazz required for admission into the class.
MTV & Me! (8-18 y.o.) Saturday: 1:00 - 2:30 PM [Available in Summers only]
So.... you want to be a dancer/singer on MTV but you're too shy to even sing in the shower?!?! "MTV Me!" To The Rescue! This class will help you get over the heemie jeemies and pull out your inner ROCK STAR! YOU choose your song (clean versions only) and we'll help you find your voice (karaoke or lip sync'ed!) YOU choose your dance and we'll help you find your "groove"! You choose your get-up, and we'll help you get-down to making a rockin' MTV
Pearl Combo Tuesday 3:30 - 4:30 PM or
Opal Combo Saturday 10:00 - 11:00 AM- Pre-ballet & Tap (3-4 yr olds)
For little dancers 3-4 years old, or the beginner student aged 4-5 years who has no dance experience, this class offers 30 minutes of fun, yet purposeful, movement activity aimed at preparing the young dancer for a more structured dance class. Creative movement employing hula-hoops, scarves, drums, and "animal walks" will improve coordination, flexibility and rhythm. Rudimentary ballet terms are used. Tap class follows and is recommended to complete the Pearl level curriculum.
Ruby Combo: Ballet/Tap & Jazz (6-9 yr olds) Tuesday: 4:30 - 6:00 PM & Jazz on Thursday 4:00-5:00 PM
For dancers with at least 1-2 years experience in dance, this class offers 45 minutes of Cecchitti style ballet, and 45 mins of tap. Emphasis is placed on learning positions, rhythms, dance steps, and vocabulary. Choreography from each style will be performed in the Spring Recital.
Sapphire Ballet & Tap(7-9 yr olds) Tues & Thursday: 5:00 - 6:00 PM
For dancers with at least 2-3 years experience in dance, these classes offer 1 hr of Cecchitti style ballet or 1 hour of tap with emphasis is placed on flexibility, technique and dance combinations. Choreography will be performed in the Spring Recital.
Sapphire/Ruby Jazz (7-9 & 5-7 yr olds) Thursday: 4:00 - 5:00 PM
For dancers with 2-3 years experience in dance, this class offers classical jazz technique with emphasis on flexibility, turns, leaps, technique and FUN upbeat choreography.
Shuffle & Scuffle! Saturday: 12:00 - 1:00 PM [Available as needed]
Always dreamed of tapping out a tune with the speed and grace of Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire or Ginger Rogers, but have 2 left feet? Don't give up! This is a class for the hopelessly backwards, unbalanced, wanna-be TAP dancer! Taught by a recovering clutz, this class should give you confidence to "cut a rug" on the dance floor (OK, we'll settle for the kitchen floor.)
Stretch & Strengthen Class (Open Level) Tuesday 7:00 - 7:30 PM & Wednesday 6:30 - 7:00 PM
(Included in first half hour of each adult/teen ballet class)
Flexibility and strength are essential for technical improvement in dance, thus, 30 minutes of slow, deep whole-body stretching while strengthening core abdominal muscles makes this class a MUST for the serious student of any style dance. S&S is offered just prior to the ballet classes but may be taken independently.
Tiger Tappers - Boys in motion! (6 - 10 yr olds) [Currently unavailable]
What do you do with a young boy who has more energy than the day is long? Put him in Tiger Tappers where he can "focus his motion" and make cool sounds with his feet, hands and fingers! He will learn the basics of tap, rhythm, tempo, and fine motor coordination as he learns the sequence of a high-energy dance that will keep his toes tapping long after the class is over!
Tap I - Beginner (Open Level) Thursday: 6:00 - 7:00 PM
Beginning tappers with little or NO experience will learn tap technique and tap vocabulary from "ground 0" in this low-pressure class for adults and teens. Basic rudiments taught will include shuffles, ball changes, flaps, slaps, carry overs/unders, drawbacks, and tempo and rhythm. Tap choreography for the Spring Recital will be taught, however, participation in the show is optional.
Tap II - Beg/Intermediate (Open Level) Saturday: 11:30 - 12:30 PM
A full year of tap I is required to take this class. Time steps, pull backs, double shuffle drawbacks, and paradiddles will be taught. Improvement in balance, turns, and tap technique are goals. Choreography for the Spring Recital will be taught, however, participation in the show is optional.
Tap IV - Intermediate/Advanced (Adult/Teen) - Tuesday: 6:00 - 7:00 PM
A minimum of 4 full years of tap experience is prerequisite to taking this fast-paced, intermediate tap class. Plan to sweat in this class! Advanced steps will be taught in the context of choreography which is a main focus of this performance-bound class.
Zircon Tap - Advanced Tap V (Adult/Teen) - Tuesday: 6:00 - 7:00 PM
A minimum of 5 full years of tap experience is prerequisite to taking this fast-paced, advanced tap class. Plan to sweat in this class! Advanced steps will be taught in the context of choreography which is a main focus of this performance-bound class.
Toddlers in Tutus (2 - 3 yr olds) Tuesday & Wednesday 9:30 - 10:00 AM (1/2 hr)
For the littlest dancer 3+ years old, this class offers 20- 25 minutes of fun "dance play" and 5-10 minutes of tap dance. We use hula-hoops, scarves, maracas, drums, "animal" stretches and TUTUS (!) to make dancing fun, yet, instructivel! Parental participation is necessary, so all "dancers" should dress with movement in mind!
Topaz Ballet/Pointe (approx. 10-16 yrs or by instructor consent) Monday 5:00 - 6:30 PM &
Wednesday 6:30 - 8:30 PM
Topaz Ballet is for dancers 10-16 yrs of age who have 3+ years experience in ballet, or 1st year pointe students. Cecchetti ballet technique and class structure are followed with an emphasis on flexibility, strength, and musicality in movement. Leotards and tights of any color are permitted. No shorts, loose shirts, ballet skirts, necklaces or dangling ear rings. Hair must be neatly secured behind the ears. Topaz Tap and Topaz Jazz complete the Topaz level curriculum. Topaz dancers may have additional outside performances throughout the year.
Topaz Tap (10-16 yrs) Wednesday: 5:30 - 6:30 PM
Topaz Tap is for dancers 10 - 16 yrs of age who have 3+ years experience in tap. Tap technique, tap sound, and ensemble work will be stressed. Black tie-on tap shoes are required and regular dance apparel should be worn since kicks and jazz movement will be used in choreography at this level class. Topaz Ballet and Topaz Jazz are required to complete the Topaz level curriculum.
Topaz Jazz (10-16 yrs) Monday: 6:30 - 8:00 PM
Topaz Jazz is for dancers 10-16 yrs of age who have 3+ years experience in jazz and are currently studying ballet as well. Classical jazz technique is covered with focus on extensions, turns, floor-work, and jumps. Choreography for the Spring Recital is started in the first session. Artistic input from the students is welcomed! Jazz shoes and dancewear are required.
